EDMS – Click Frenzy SOLUS EDM Creation
Upload files to the dropbox and inspect them (select the html file and hit spacebar to preview it)
Things to look for,
- The images are displaying
- It’s in our template
- Links are working
If the images were supplied in an ‘images’ folder then we’ll need to upload them to our Amazon S3 server.
Note: If all that was supplied was a html file (and the images seem to be displaying properly), then this means the client are hosting the images on their on server and have linked to them in the html file, and the following steps aren’t required. Easy!
LOGIN TO AMAZON S3
To upload the images to our Amazon S3 server click on the following link;
Amazon S3 Link
MAKE A NEW FOLDER
Click on the ‘click frenzy’ bucket and then the ‘edm-pix’ bucket and make a new folder with a title relating to the EDM (No spaces in the title. Keep it simple)
Click the upload button and upload the images that were supplied with the EDM.
MAKE THE IMAGES PUBLIC
Select all the images. Click the ‘MORE’ button and select ‘MAKE PUBLIC’
COPY THE IMAGE URL
Last step is to copy the image URL. Click on any image and select the URL up until and including the last ‘/’
would be https://s3-ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com/clickfrenzy/edm-pix/folder-you-just-made/
We are now going to use this URL to replace the ‘image/’ URL in the html file.
OPEN HTML FILE
Open the html file in Brackets. It’s a html editor. If you don’t have it, download it here for free.
FIND AND REPLACE IAME URL
Once in Brackets, go to ‘File > Replace’.
In the ‘find’ field type“images/
In the ‘replace with’ filed paste the URL we copied in STEP 2 and add a quote mark at the start“and then select replace all.
What we are doing here is making the image URLs point to our Amazon S3 server instead of a local folder on the dropbox. We do this because local files on the dropbox won’t display images to the rest of the world. Only we would see them because we are linked to that particular Dropbox account. By linking them to the Amazon S3 server, everyone can then see them.
SAVE AND PREVIEW AGAIN
Save the file and preview the file to make sure all the images are linked and displaying.
‘A’ Send to non-Microsoft email address
SETUP IN EMARSYS
Setup a new email campaign in Emarsys. Assign the letter ‘A’ to the end of the email campaign name as we will do a ‘B’ version later on. Refer to screenshot for ‘Email Settings’. Only thing to update here is the ‘subject line’.
Send to combined segment called ‘(BASE) Consumers (Non Microsoft) A’
PASTE IN HTML CODE
Look for the ‘<>’ button at the end of the toolbar that appears in the middle of the page. Click on it. This is the HTML editor. Paste all the html (from Brackets) then click on the ‘<>’ button again to preview it.
The is a button we need to click to enable all the links to be trackable. Look for the ‘Auto Track HTML’ button. Click this and it will scan the EDM for links and ad tracking to them. You can also define the category for each link to help with reporting later on.
CHECK UNSUBSCRIBE LINK
We need to make sure the unsubscribe link is compatible with the Emarsys database.
Check the Unsubscribe link. It should just be #UNSUBSCRIBE_HREF# If it isn’t, then update the link.
You can do this in the code. Look for the Unsubscribe href=”????” and replace anything in between the quote marks with #UNSUBSCRIBE_HREF#
SEND TEST EMAIL
To send a test email, you have to be in the ‘old editor’ section of emarsys if you’re not already it it. To find it see below.
Press the ‘test’ button to send a test. Refer to screenshot for settings. Seperate multiple email address with ‘;’

Send to combined segment called ‘(BASE) Consumers (Are Microsoft) B’
Setup an A/B test
We need to do an A/B test. Both emails in this A/B test will be identical except for their ‘from’ email address.
By default you are already in version a. Set the ‘from’ email address to firstname.lastname@example.org
Hit save, then make a ‘version b’ which you do in the ‘version’ tab.’
Clone ‘version a’ to make ‘version b’. Once in ‘version b’ change the ‘from’ email address to a new one.
You can make a new ‘from’ email address in the ‘reply management’ section of the Emarsys website.
The email address has to be a ?????@email.clickfrenzy.com.au with the ????? section being the new part to add.
You’ll have to reload the campaign page to update the new ‘from’ email address.
Schedule ‘version a’ to be sent to 10% of the database for a 10am send.
Schedule ‘version b’ to be sent to 10% of the database for a 10am send.
Schedule ‘final send’ to go the ‘best open rate’ of the two versions for a 1pm send.
Under ‘Select version to send’ select automatically’ to select the ‘best open rate’ option.
